Short Paper Topic (5 Pages)
Papers Must be Typed, Double-Spaced, and Stapled

Write a critical review of the scholarly essays in any one of the five chapters in Roman Imperialism: Readings and Sources.  How do the authors employ the ancient evidence in constructing their arguments?  How do you account for the divergences of opinion in the essays?  What evidence does each scholar emphasize, and what evidence does he or she downplay?  In the end, which of the essays in your selected chapter is the most convincing historical analysis of the topic at hand?  Obviously, a close reading of the "Sources" section for each chapter will be the key to a successful paper.

Papers are due on the last day of class
