These pages are intended to prepare you for discussion sections as well as help you consider ideas in a wide spectrum so that you will be able to make connections between ideas explored in the first weeks of the course with ideas explored in the closing weeks of the course.
Use the discussion questions to PREPARE yourselves for class. The discussion sections are perhaps the most important aspect of this course. It is the realm in which not only will your grades be determined but also the place in which you can express your interests and pose questions of the TAs.
The document analysis consists of one document from each weeks reading selections from the reader. The document is dissected, with each part labeled for argument, rhetoric, factual information and important ideas to be considered. The purpose of these pages is to show you how to take a document apart. Various documents come apart in differing ways. The selection will be broad enough to allow you to apply the information in the analyses to other documents in the reader. Use these pages to help you in writing as well as preparation for class discussions.
