Challenges to Global Governance


The First Video Conference

On 13 October 1997 faculty members from the International Relations Program of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University held a video conference with faculty from the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University in Sweden. The participants included Jim Bennett, Matt Bonham, Terrence Guay, Peter Marsh, and Chris Sedore in Syracuse and Erik Noreen and Peter Wallensteen in Uppsala.

During the course of the video conference the participants decided to hold a virtural conference on "Challenges to Global Goverance" in mid-February 1998. The participants in the conference would include Syracuse students who participated in the Seminar on Multilateral Peacekeeping, held in New York City from 4-9 January 1998, as well as students affiliated with the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University.

The Second Video Conference

The participants in Uppsala included Peter Wallensteen, Chair of the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Ashok Swain, Assistant Professor, and seven students: Larissa Ardales, Maria Bowie, Dung Douan, Camilla Kyledal, Hang Nguyen, Kjartan Sigurdson, Benny Wahlberg.

The Syracuse participants included Matt Bonham, Chair of International Relations, Robert Rubinstein, Director of the Program on the Analysis and Resolution of Conflicts, Harry Lambright, Director of the Center for Environmental Policy and Administration, and eight students: Carolina Benedictsson, Rob Callum, Esra Cuhadar, Dea Colins, Sourabh Gupta, Brooke Johnson, Severine Meyer, and Jeffrey Seifert
