Michael J. Shapiro is Professor of Political Science at University of Hawaii. His recent publications include: Reading the Postmodern Polity: Political Theory as Textual Practice (U of Minnesota Press, 1992); Reading 'Adam Smith': Desire, History and Value (Sage, 1993); Challenging Boundaries: Global Flows, Territorial Identities (Co-edited with Hayward Alker: U of Minnesota Press, 1996); and Violent Cartographies: Mapping Cultures of War (U of Minnesota Press, 1997).
