Videoconferencing News

The Multi-Point Videoconference with Science Po Paris and MGIMO Moscow began today at 9:00 and ended at 10:10 AM. Except for a seven-minute period when the connection with Moscow was lost, the conference went smoothly.  A recording is now available on the Maxwell streaming server: Click Here [30 March 2005] >> Back

Today we had a very successful test of the videoconferencing equipment and connection over H.323.  This completes the series of technical tests, and we are now ready for the conference on 22 March at 9:00 AM New York, 15.00 Paris, and 17.00 Moscow. [9 March 2005] >> Back

We have had to postpone the videoconference that was scheduled for Tuesday 1 March to Tuesday 22 March at 9:00 AM New York, 15.00 Paris and 17.00 Moscow.  This will give us all an opportunity to do research on the topic and participate in the Discussion Form.  [28 February 2005] >> Back

We have conducted technical tests of the videoconferencing links to Paris and Moscow.  The video from Paris is excellent, although the audio breaks up (because of packet loss) from time to time.  When it does, we have to ask Paris to repeat what they said. Later Paris connected on ISDN and the connection was perfect. The video from Moscow is OK, but there is packet loss and the frame rate is variable, making movement appear jerky at times.  A more serious problem is an echo or feedback when we are talking.  At times you hear yourself with a one second delay.  Moscow's echo canceling device does not appear to be working properly.  We will have another test with Moscow and Paris on Monday at 9:00 AM New York.  If the problem persists, we will ask them to mute their microphone, when we are talking. So far only one person in Moscow has joined our discussion forum, Professor Gladkov.  No one in Paris has joined it.  Nevertheless, I would like to encourage you to participate, because the content will be used, in part, to structure our discussion agenda. [23 February 2005]
