News for Psc 760, Spring 2008

17 January (Computing wasn't functioning earlier today; hence the late notice.)  There is a large cardboard box, labeled in red ink "The Box", sitting on a file cabinet outside my office, in the vestibule to Max 405.  In it you will find:

1. 4 copies of 1st chater of Leigh Thompson's book.  Please borrow and return.

2. 15 copies of a handout, which you should keep, that offers introductory remarks about game theory.  After some very elementary material addressing two-person bargaining, we'll address this handout in class next week.  Don't be daunted by the use of calculus toward the end; just get the ideas involved.

Also, I've edited the syllabus.  The book by Crocker, et al., is no longer required reading.  I'll explain why in class.

29 January  Regarding readings assigned for Feb 5: I put one copy of the pages assigned from Kahneman and Tversky's (KT) book into "The Box" outside my office.  Please borrow, copy it if you wish, and return it.  I hope to find at least one copy of the two short chapters from the book edited by Barbara Farnham: when I find it I shall put a copy into "The Box."  Not many pages are assigned: read the KT chapters carefully.

18 March  US follows Canada in low-key arctic activities.

1 April  Other people can "play Ikle", for instance Bill Richardson (see near bottom of long page).  Does  this advice contravene others' which we have read?

Underwater extraction of gas from Norwegian portion of Barents Sea here.

Just East lies the 'elephant' Shtokman gas field, here, currently to be developed by ... (a tale with many twists and turns but always with) Gazprom in the lead.

Look at the discrete "Regions" in Energy Bulletin pages: the arctic is finally  getting respect.
