J. MILTON YINGER,
internationally acclaimed sociologist and scholar in the study
of prejudice and discrimination and esteemed professor, we honor
your singular contributions to increased understanding of the
forces that can divide us as well as of the values that can
unite us.
Author of the groundbreaking
textbook Racial and Cultural Minorities: An Analysis of
Prejudice and Discrimination, you blazed trails in this
essential and controversial area of scholarship at the dawn of
the civil rights movement. Through this seminal work and many
other publications, you have instructed thousands of students
across the country and around the world as well as created new
bridges across ethnic and racial lines.
In addition, you have served
as a distinguished member of the faculty of Oberlin College and
as a visiting professor at several distinguished institutions.
You have lectured widely here and abroad in the areas of the
sociology of religion, social change, and ethnic and race
relations.
