Through the secretive machinations of elite internationalist organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderberg Group, America is being led into a unified world government - the New World Order (NWO). In far-right ideology, the phrase "New World Order" carries special significance. It represents their worst nightmare as our imminent fate - unless we can find a way to defeat the forces of evil and protect our liberty.
This anti-globalist perspective is reproduced in the literature of various grassroots Patriot groups. For example, Dan Druck of the Council on Domestic Relations declared that:
...most, if not all, of the problems that our country is facing are due to the deliberate migration away from the supreme law of our land - the Constitution for the United States [sic]. ...the promoters of this migration are the ultra-rich and ultra-powerful international banking and multinational corporations who seek to increase their power and control by promoting a one-world socialistic government. (Pardon the over-simplification).
Patriots generally fear integration of the US into international economic and political relationships or institutions. Economic interdependence, they believe, will inevitably lead to political institutions which will impinge on US sovereignty, draw the US into a global political regime dominated by the Insiders, and endanger the American Constitutional Republic.
In his book, En Route to Global Occupation, Gary Kah says that "It is not unfair to say that the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commisssion run our government"(1991: 55). Further, "By getting the United States to join the UN, which represents a limited form of world government, the Council on Foreign Relations has accomplished its first major objective. Using its influence in public education and the media, the CFR would now proceed to cast a favorable image for the United Nations among the American public, eventually leading step-by-step to US participation in a full-blown system of world government" (1991:37).
James Perloff (1988: 12, 219), an author associated with the John Birch Society, asks: "if the United States traded its sovereignty for membership in a world government, what would become of our freedoms, as expressed in the Bill of Rights? ...If all power is vested in a single international authority, what force except God Himself could save us from the abuses certain to follow?"

Drawing the US into a world government are such institutions as the World Trade
Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and especially the United Nations. Many Patriots fear that the UN
is creating a global govenment which will enforce its edicts through a global occupation
force, a one-world army.
Some worry that one day UN troops
will disarm the American populace and forcibly incorporate into a one-world government
without respect for our rights and liberties. Ominous reports of mysterious, unmarked black helicopters seem to reinforce such
fears. Viewed from this perspective, the appearance of foreign military equipment or
personnel on American soil which might signal preparations for occupation. Here is an
example of the kind of news
story which arouses the fears of those who subscribe to NWO ideology.
Christian Patriots often interpret the New World Order as a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy, the end product of an ancient conspiracy involving the Illuminati and Freemasons, financial elites, the Federal Reserve and the United Nations all allegedly working to establish a global tyranny under the satanic rule of the anti-Christ (see, for example, the various symbols juxtaposed in the graphic below). Linking conspiracy thinking to the book of Revelation, some believe this struggle will usher in the End Times leading up to the cataclysmic battle of Armageddon.
Fearing that international economic interdependence would lead to political subordination to globalism, many in the Patriot movement were deeply concerned about recent international trade agreements, especially the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the General Agreement of Taraiffs and Trade (GATT). Viewed from the anti-globalist perspective of the far-right, the significance of trade agreements such as NAFTA and GATT far exceed their economic costs or benefits, as Dan Druck of the Council on Domestic Relations explained to fellow Patriots in 1993:
The passage of NAFTA would be a giant step toward a one world socialistic government. With the jelling of the European Economic Community...in Europe, NAFTA and GATT in the Americas [sic] and the formation of an Asian economic consortium, the three legs of the Tri-Lateralist plan for global unification of commercial and banking interests are rapidly coming to fruition. It is also an overall giant leap toward the New World Order's one world government. NAFTA impacts far more than our jobs and our economy.
Such interpretations echo the ideological leaders of the far-right, such as the John Birch Society and its journal, The New American. One JBS writer, William Jasper (1993: 19), claims that:
the whole NAFTA-APEC-GATT trade waltz has been expertly choreographed by the same globalist Insiders of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and Trilateral Commission (TC) who are also using concerns over supposed "crises" involving the environment, security, population, poverty, refugees, debt, and nuclear proliferation to empower the United Nations.
Thomas Eddlem (1992, 1994), another New American writer, argues that both NAFTA
and GATT "call for bigger and more costly government, greater intrusions into the
daily affairs of the American people, and a substantial transfer of US sovereignty to a
host of new international governmental institutions" , (1994: 23). These agreements
shift the weight of taxation even further away from tariffs, allegedly favored by the
Founders, and toward more intrusive and freedom-destroying income taxes. Still more grave,
NAFTA and GATT mire the US in "an artificial state of economic dependency"
which, like quicksand, inexorably draws the US economy and political system into a global
order dominated by the Insiders. "The underlying strategy employed by the
CFR/Trilateral alliance is that economic power leads to political control, and economic
union is a necessary step toward political union." (Eddlem, 1994: 27).

In the New American special report entitled Conspiracy for Global Control, editor Gary Benoit writes:
...behind the CFR and other powerful internationalist groupings such as the Trilateral Commission, behind the giant tax-exempt foundations, behind the Wall Street and Federal Reserve financial and banking interests, behind presidents and prime ministers, behind the NAFTA / GATT / IMF / NATO / UN axis, behind even the communist menace itself - is the conspiracy for global control (1996: 1).
John McManus, President of the JBS, assesses economic globalization in stark terms:
"The goal is the breakdown of national sovereignty via economics. In the end, unless
all of this is stopped, the 'new world order' will emerge and freedom will be a mere
memory" (McManus, 1995b: 19).
Writers associated with the Liberty Lobby stressed the loss of American sovereignty in their interpretations of NAFTA and GATT, as did the Birch publications; but the Lobby's populist pitch more directly addressed the fears of America's working "middle class" in this period of deindustrialization and internationalized production.
There used to be an unwritten social contract between the middle class and the Establishment that went like this: America's capitalist economy would provide jobs - good paying jobs in a factory or office - that enabled an American worker to support his family on one income. ...In return, the middle class worked hard, paid taxes and raised the next generation to follow in their footsteps. ...But sadly, so much has changed (Hudson, 1993: 16).
According to Willis Carto, founder of the Liberty Lobby, these trade agreements are part of the global elite's plan for world government, at the expense of national sovereignty and our constitutional rights.
An extremely powerful lobby has developed among the community of international traders. Their loyalty is only to their money, wherever it may be and derived from whatever source. These capitalists are the greatest advocates of free trade and are implacable enemies of national sovereignty. They are far more dangerous to the nation than communists ever were (Carto, 1993: 4).
Liberty Lobby described the new world order as "the global plantation" in which non-productive elites will live off the sweat of the world's producers. In Carto's words: "Today, the operating plan is a step-by-step progression to the final goal of ownership and control of all natural resources and every square inch of land and everything on it by a consortium of international supercapitalists..." (Carto, 1993: 22)
Discussions of the NWO by grassroots Patriots often reflect views of international affairs similar to those formulated by JBS or Liberty Lobby writers, although not necessarily in explicitly racist or anti-Semitic terms. For example, see websites such as:
