Mary Tschirhart, associate professor of public administration, teaches courses on public and nonprofit management, fund development for nonprofits, and organizational theory.  Professor Tschirhart received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1993 and taught at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs until 2002. She is currently the director of the Campbell Institute.  She also holds the following appointments: Vice President for North America for the board of the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM), board member for the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), and chair of the Nonprofit Education Section of NASPAA (National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration.  She is the former division chair of the Public and Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management.

Professor Tschirhart's research addresses management issues for public and private organizations.  Her current research projects examine stakeholder dynamics, career transitions, board membership, employee diversity and identity, collaboration, and issues related to service programs and volunteer behavior.  She has published in a variety of journals including Public Administration Review, Journal of Nonprofit Management and Leadership, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Journal of Nonprofit and Public Sector Marketing, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Public Productivity and Management Review, Journal of Public Affairs Education, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Higher Education, Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, and Industrial and Labor Relations Review. Her book, Artful Leadership: Managing Stakeholder Problems in Nonprofit Arts Organizations was published by Indiana University Press.
