Prospective Students

Availability

Each year, the department has several lines (the exact number changes from year to year) of Teaching Assistantship (TA) available for students who can teach undergraduate courses on Physical Geography (GEO 155) or can teach GIS labs for GEO383/683. In addition, I may have funding available for one or two students from time to time. These positions are for candidates who want to pursue either M.A. or Ph.D.

Background

My research has the nature of multi-disciplinary interaction. Generally, I am interested in students who have background in at least one of the following areas:
• Fluvial geomorphology
• Water quality at the watershed scale
• GIS and surface water processes
• Sediment and sediment transport
• Watershed hydrology
• Hydrological/sediment modeling

Candidates who have the ability of computer programming or spatial statistical analysis/GIS are preferred.

Applying requirement

You are welcome to send me an e-mail at pegao@maxwell.syr.edu describing briefly your research experience and interests. For international students, you have to demonstrate the ability of fluent oral English in order to gain TA.

Students are selected through a combination of criteria, including academic background, performance, (GRE test scores are required), (and TOEFL scores for international students), letters of recommendation, and a statement of intent. More details can be found in http://www.maxwell.syr.edu/geo/degree_programs/degree_programs.htm
