Drafted and served with the United States Armed Forces, Fourth Infantry Division on active duty in West Germany, 1954-1956; USAR, 1956-1962, Honorable Discharge, 1962.
Married 1964, wife (formerly Margaret L. Mitchell) born in Washington, D.C., B.S. University of Maryland, 1964; M.A. University of Maryland, 1972; Ph.D. in Social Psychology, Syracuse University, 1980. Presently Professor of Bioethics and Humanities, Center for Bioethics and Humanities, State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York.
Three children, Julia, Katherine, and Elizabeth. Julia Braungart-Rieker (B.S. Syracuse University, 1987; M.S. 1990 and Ph.D. 1992, Pennsylvania State University) is presently Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. Katherine Braungart-Hemingway (B.A. Syracuse University, 1996) is living and working in Nantucket, MA, and Elizabeth Braungart (B.S. Syracuse University, 2000; M.S. Pennsylvania State University, 2002) is a doctoral student in Human Development at Penn State.
